Building Up - Prints

Since I began abstract painting, I had never worked at a small scale—until this piece. Drawn entirely from nature, I used cool-toned grounds to explore contrasts: movement and stillness, tranquility and eruption, rock and water, rigidity and softness, held together in one field.

It holds presence through its compressed scale, yet invites conversation through these tensions. Viewers are drawn into questions of balance between opposing forces. Rooted in observation from nature and guided by a way of seeing through contrast, it holds together with internal coherence. Its tensions unfold through contrast, becoming something one returns to and speaks about—a shifting balance of opposing forces that emerges more clearly the longer one stays with it.
